Mining Black Lava Stone Material

The mining of black lava stone material is carried out traditionally on the slopes of Mount Merapi, precisely on the border of Yogyakarta–Magelang, Central Java. To ensure a supply of high-quality black lava stone tiles, we partner with local residents who are experienced in reading the characteristics of lava flows and selecting the best stone layers. This partnership not only improves the economic welfare of the surrounding community but also encourages controlled mine site management — maintaining slope stability and environmental sustainability so that Merapi’s volcanic resources remain preserved.
